Katz Cowley

The Secret of lllustrating!
Katz Cowley told us that there's a secret about drawing faces when you are an illustrator. She showed us by drawing some pictures on the whiteboard. Katz taught us how to make different faces by changing the mouth, eyes, ears, eyebrows, nose, hair etc. She drew happy faces, angry faces and funny faces! I enjoyed her telling us that when she goes to the movies she gets a piece of paper and a pencil, and lets her hand draw anything. Then she makes a face inside the scribbles. Katz Cowley is very talented and creative! She loves drawing characters from stories and bringing them to life. She has a degree in illustration too!

History of the All Blacks

The first NZ team was selected in 1884, for a tour in NSW, Australia.

The team played it's first match against Wellington xv before getting eight wins in eight matches in Australia. Otago prop James Allen who played eight matches for the 1884 team - he has been called the All Blacks no.1.

The 1888-89 natives team that played 102 matches in a marathon tour of N.Z and Australia and U.K. was not an official team. This helped the NZ rugby team to be known around the world.

In 1893 the first N.Z official team was selected for an 11 match tour to Australia. The team only lost once, to NSW in Sydney in 1894.

An official NZ team hosted a visiting team from NSW Australia, in Canterbury - the game was won 8-6 by the visitors.

Kyle Mewburn

On Wednesday 24th August, Kyle Mewburn (famous NZ author!!!!) came to our school assembly! He told us that when he was young he sometimes got the cane for fighting. When he he left school his teacher gave him a book about a boy that was always bored. This book inspired him to be an author. He wrote a book for adults and sent it in to the publisher and they didn't like it. Then he wrote a book called 'The Hoppleplop'. It was published and he got a cheque for $1000. Next he wrote more and more books like 'Kiss Kiss Yuck Yuck' and 'Hill and Hole' and got lots more money and fame. He even won some awards.

That's Kyle Mewburn's life as an author. I thought he was funny too!

How the All Blacks got their name.

Reason 1: after one of the team's big victories in 1905 , a newspaper planned to have 'All backs' as it's head line. They suggested that the forwards were playing like backs; but the printer made an error and actually gave the head line as 'All Blacks'.

Reason 2: a rugby writer said that he begin to referring to the rugby team from N.Z. as 'All Blacks' because of the colour of their uniform. He said the only colours not black were the silver fern on the left side of the shirt and the white on their boot laces.

Auckland Snow Fall!

1939 was the last time it snowed in Auckland but 72 years later it finally snows again! Over the last few days it's been snowing in random places over Auckland. Once it hit the ground it only stayed there a little while before it melted. It didn't just snow in Auckland, it snowed in the bottom half of the North Island and the South Island.
It was exciting for Aucklanders to see snow!

East Bus Penguins on the March!!

Early on the morning of Thursday 11th August, 20 penguins gathered on the corner of Kimpton and Cornwell icebergs to form a search party to look for two missing members of the East Bus huddle. There was now growing concern for the safety of missing Captain Compston and Mr Popper, as neither were trained in iceberg and sea safety.
Mrs Momma penguin announced "OK East Bus - let's waddle!" All the penguins started waddling in the direction of Papatoetoe East Polar School. The East Bus penguins demonstrated their expertise in iceberg and sea safety, keeping their flippers on the flipperpath and staying in formation. When they had to cross the treacherous Morris Avenue Strait, they kept alert for sneaky seals and awful orca. Thankfully, they all arrived safely on the other side.
Acting on a tip-off from a friendly seagull, the East Bus penguins raided Papatoetoe East Polar School. There they found Captain Compston trapped in the school office. In a daring rescue they set her free. The search continues for Mr Popper . . . .

Adidas- Charging To Much For The New All Blacks Jersey!?

The Allblacks have a new jersey and Adidas are charging $220.00 to buy one here in New Zealand!

Now normally you can go onto 'worldrugbyshop.com' to buy an Allblacks jersey for half that price. But Adidas have taken NZ off the site so now Kiwis can't buy the jerseys from overseas. We're NZ citizens and should be able to buy them at a cheaper price than people from other countries who don't even support the Allblacks. The prices should be lowered just to New Zealanders so we can support them. On the 8th of August it seems that Adidas took NZ off the shipping areas so now we can't buy them from there because Adidas have refused to let NZ citizens buy them cheaper. The Tshirt cost $96.50 in the US and $128.00 in Britain including postage and packaging. At the price shops here are selling them, no one in NZ will want to buy one for that price.
Adidas has been a great supporter of the NZ rugby, but now they are refusing to listen to the the NZ public!
