Alien Invasion

Have you noticed some weird things going on at Rainbow's End such as ........aliens invading the places and rides. They landed a spaceship called the "Invader"- you wouldn't want to go onto that horrid spaceship. It spins around and goes up and down.

Ye-Haw, howdy partners did you ever know that they're making a new ride next to the Old Western Cowboy ride, called the "Gold Rush". You go through Martha mine - a famous New Zealand mine.

He also read "Kiss Kiss Yuck Yuck" which he wrote and showed the pictures on the big screen tv. Katz showed us some techniques to draw characters. She also showed the school how "The Wonkey Donkey" pictures started, and how they were created. We were so lucky to meet a famous author and illustrator!!

Wynyard Quarter

The Wynyard Quarter was made in time for the Rugby World Cup 2011. Seven years ago, a vision was formed to improve land around the waterfront area, known as the Tank farm. On Saturday 6th August, people were invited to come to the opening of the Wynyard Quarter.

From the modern flowing design of the Viaduct Events Center to the cargo shed and fishing boats tied up beside it, The Quarter is a great mix of the old and the new, existing side by side.

There are ten new restaurants and bars, as well as lots of open areas to walk and enjoy. There is even an outdoor piano for people to play. Imagine watching a movie on the side of a silo tank or going for a tram ride. All of this is possible at the new Wynyard Quarter. Come down and see for yourself!

Volunteers for the RWC

Today we met Mark who is a volunteer driver for the Rugby World Cup.
Mark gets a supporters kit which includes a t-shirt, trousers, a cool jacket and a backpack bag. He also wears an identification card around his neck to say that he is an official volunteer. Volunteers are pretty special people because they don't get paid for the hard work they do.

Mark gets to drive around all day in a flash Land Rover with amazing RWC patterns all over it. He drives an important person from South Africa. Mark drives him to games, meetings and dinners all over Auckland.

Some lucky kids got to check out the flash car!!

Mark supports the ALL BLACKS and he hopes they will win the WORLD CUP this year. D6 kids helped Mark shout out for the ALL BLACKS!

Museum Trip

Did you hear that on the fourth of August the year five students went to the Auckland museum? The kids all enjoyed it and learnt new things about ancient stuff. The year fives saw cool things like seeing old Auckland in the 1860's. The students also saw dinosaur bones, a big airplane and other sorts of old stuff. They did an activity sheet at the museum. It was at the old Auckland, 1860's! The students saw how chess looked like back in the day- it was really weird! Did you know that people used to ride horses to and from instead of going by car? The museum is a great place to visit if you want to learn about the past.

Being a good Digital Citizen.

At Papatoetoe East School we all are digital citizens because we use computers. Our school uses a website called Hector's World to learn about being safe online. Hector's World helps us kids learn about cybersafety on the internet and what to do when you come across an unwanted website. Hector's World helps kids so they are safe and are not using their personal details on websites. Some websites are useful and some are hoaxes. Hoax means stuff that is fiction and not true. Some websites can put viruses on your computer and they are dangerous. Hector's World is a good website for kids to use and it is also safe for kids.

The Most Outrageous Rides Ever!

Wow! What I've heard from the people is that Rainbow End rides are the best rides outrageous rides in New Zealand. Take the Roller-coaster - when you look down all you can see is dots and spots. Take the Fearfall. . . . . when you fall you always get butterflies and you just want to crack up laughing. Gold-rush: it is very scary - as scary as a horror movie. When you go on the Log Flume it's just like a ride on paradise.
